Excellent product, I think I've covered most of the things that really drew my attention and appreciation.
The combination of weight/usable space/vestibule space is ummatched in a 4 season tent. Well thought out design. Well constructed, particularly for such a small package. Stuffs down to a very reasonable size for a 4 season, 2-3 person tent. The steep angle of the tent walls make the most of the floor dimensions, giving this tent much more usable space than other tenst with equal square footage.
The vestibule is the reason I chose this tent, and it did not disappoint. Provides a large usable space for storing gear or even cooking out of the elements. The venting system is also very nice. Even though it is a 4 season tent, when set up with the prevailing winds in mind, it was adequately ventilated for summer use. The layout of the guy lines also enabled the tent to easily be set up in a very tight and stable manner - no slack anywhere. The design of the inner module enables it to be packed as one unit, and set up as one unit, which not only makes set up that much quicker, but ensures that the inner compartment doesn't get wet if set up in the rain.
Hunting, including backpack hunts. This design, with the large vestibule, is ideal for backpack hunting, where much more gear must be packed in than with general backpacking.
This product (and others you make) really need to be marketed to hunters. The quality is far superior to ANYTHING being carried by the major retailers that cater to hunters, at any price.

New from Exped: Andromeda tunnel tent with flat pole sleeve technology
Tent models that are set up canopy first, either have pole sleeves running along the inner or outter side of the rainfly. Latter version is very common (e.g. Hilleberg, Vaude) but has the disadvantage of having a negative effect on the aerodynamics. Sleeves on the inside make pitching and tearing down the tent more cumbersome and poles don’t slide in and out as easily.
The new three person Exped „Andromeda“ with it’s newly developed flat pole sleeves promises to combine the best of both systems. The pole sleeves, made of a beefier fabric than the fly, are not sewn on to the fabric as a tube, but merged into the fly with double seams. Regular pole sleeves on the outer side of the rainfly pop up when under tension increasing airdrag. Using the flat pole sleeve technology of the “Andromeda” minimizes this effect, making the tent as aerodynamic as tunnel tents with sleeves on the inside.
Further advantages are that both seams can be taped and seamsealer is not needed. In tests against the windmachine it showed itself from it’s best side. It stood straight in Beaufort 8 winds and even side winds only had marginal effect. This was not only thanks to the flat pole sleeves, but the clean cut fly and the well placed guy out points. The guy lines could be a bit longer, this being the only point of criticism to the Exped “Andromeda”. Set up and tear down are extremely fast since the poles just fly through the pole sleeves.
The tent has space to boot: with an area of 85” x 62” (50” at the foot end) if must be even three people fit in. The huge vestibule swallows tons of gear – at 8#13oz (minimum 8#1oz).
Proof of Expeds hands on approach to design are visible in the parts used and the easy handling: Tough, easy to use pack sacks, different types of tent pegs, numerous spare parts, knot free guyline tensioners. The triangular ventilation windows can easily be zipped shut and wear out less than round zippers.
Materials used and the workmanship are excellent. 470 Euros may be much for a tunnel tent, but concidering the excellent value, the Andromeda is a bargain. |
