you buy new gear just because it was a good deal
your number one excuse for buying another stove (or whatever) is "It's good to have a back-up"
when you buy your first ever house, and start thinking about how you can incorporate a HUGE gear closet into the basement
when you have more sleeping bags than pairs of pants.
when you buy your son a hydration pack for his first birthday.
when you try to find someone willing to drink Heineken so you can have the cans for a new alcohol stove.
when you have a 1 person tent, 2 person tent, 3 person tent, 4 person tent, 5 person tent, 6 person tent and you're keeping your eye out for a good deal on an 8 person tent because you just never know.
When your new house has to have 3 bedrooms because one is to be used for your gear room.
When you negotiate a "gear allowance" with your new employer.
When you can't decide which pair of 11 skis or 9 backpacks you should use for your next trip.
When the first thing you do when going on line is to scan all the different "gear for sale" forums
You map out great gear shops to visit at the place you're going to for vacation
when you hear there is a new baby on the way and immediately start looking for another tent/sleeping bag/1.5" climbing shoes, ect....
when you have more gear in the closets than you have clothes and you have more tents than the number of years you've been married.... and when you make gear testing part of your day job
When you have enough gear to outfit your entire family!
When you finally sell some gear that you never used despite having it for several years...and you're still sad to see it go.
